Mission statement

Hello I am the Night Owl and this is my mission statement to you. My mission is to blog about video games and anything that is related to them like comics or movies. I will use Facebook and Twitter to not only to promote my blog but to also communicate with my audience. My publishing schedule will be all over the place at first, but I will get a more manageable schedule set up soon. For now I will post when ever I can and when there is news.

Dark Souls 3 moment

Hey everyone Night owl  here to tell you about some funny moments I had playing Dark Souls 3. Lets start with my encounter with the sword master who is near firelink shrine. So I go at him feeling confident after defeating Iudex Gundyr thinking I could take him. I died 5-6 times trying to fight him it got to the point where I was violently screaming in my head. I tried many tactics to bet him to no end. Finally I said Fuck it charged at him and kept hitting him until we both fell of the edge. After reviving I took his stuff and moved on. Another funny moment is I was fighting the mad woman on the road of sacrifice. At first I was doing well against her but then I got hit with a front stab from her giant butcher knife and I was like nope got to get out here, got to heal. I rolled down a path, healed, and turned around ready to fight only to find that she was gone. I looked around and discovered that she fell off the edge. I could do nothing but laugh at that. I was not expecting it and could not stop laughing at the fact that I won with out doing much fighting. There was another time something funny happened while I was playing the game with a friend and he was fighting a crystal lizard that he ran into trying to find his way into a building. The fight lasted awhile with him striking and dodging when he could. Then as he dodged the lizards rolling attack it glitched through the wall and disappeared. We were shocked and confused as to what just happened and just could not contain our laughter. It went on for a while, but we calmed down and continued playing until we finally found away in.

Alright those were some funny moments I had playing Dark Souls 3. What are some funny moments that you had? Please comment below and let me know. This has been the Night Owl Good Night everyone.darksoul_facebook_mini

How to Play Mortal Kombat X

Hello this is the Night owl and this week I am going to tell you how to play Mortal Kombat X for you first time players. Mortal Kombat X is a fighting game that came out back in April 2015. It was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Mortal Kombat X is still being played to this day online and in tournaments by players across the country. The game has a total of 24 playable characters plus 9 DLC characters.

In order to play you need to understand a new feature that is in the game called the variation system. This system gives each character three different play styles. For example, the character Cassie Cage her three variations are Hollywood, Brawler, and Spec ops. The Hollywood variation has Cassie taking after Johnny Cage, wearing sunglasses during battle and adopting his groin-punch move, in addition to using her handguns both on the ground and in midair. Spec Ops features a military-style offensive similar to that of Sonya, featuring attacks such as air strikes with missiles and lasers, which she calls in through an earpiece. For Brawler, Cassie performs takedowns and tackles, as well as midair tosses.

Preforming combos and getting good to compete online will take time and practice, but I will give you fundamental steps to do so.

Step 1: Make sure your controls align with the characters actions. You can check the moves list to see which button does what and change them around to what you feel most comfortable with.

Step 2: Select a character that matches your play style and practice with them. It is also good to have more then one character that you are good with.

Step 3: Be aware of stage intractables. Mortal Kombat X has many intractable  objects on stage that can be used to your or your opponents advantage.

Step 4: Do not mash buttons. During a match don’t just mash buttons it can lead to your defeat. So keep calm and stay focus.

Step 5: Keep practicing. Just because you won a few matches against some people online does not mean you slack off. If you want to get good you keep on fighting.

Is Call of Duty dead?

Hey guys it’s me the Night Owl here to talk about Call of Duty. For those who may not know Call of Duty is a first-person shooter game franchise that is owned and published by the game studio Activision. It began on Microsoft windows, and later expanded to consoles and handhelds. The series was first released in 2003 which then spawned many sequels and spin-off games to this day. These games include the original three Call of Duty games, the three Modern Warfare games, Call of duty: World at war, Call of Duty: Black ops 1-3, Call of Duty: Ghost, Advanced Warfare, and their latest game Infinite Warfare. Now the Call of Duty franchise has done well in the past, however this latest game has not done so well financially. When the game was first announced there was a massive amount of hate for it. It became the number 1 disliked video game trailer on YouTube. The sales of the game are down in the UK by 50 percent. For more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AghDoSno5LE

As of now the game got a 9 out of 10 by Game Informer, an 8 out of 10 on Game Spot, and a Metacritic score of 80 for PS4 and 82 for Xbox one so review wise it is doing well. However, fans of the series are tired of the yearly release of Call of Duty games that have very little difference between them. What do you think? Do you think that the franchise is slowly ding? Why or Why not? What do you think they should do differently? Please let me know in the comments down below and Have A Nice Night.maxresdefault

Sunset Overdrive throw back review

In this weeks blog I will be reviewing the game Sunset Overdrive. Sunset Overdrive is an open world, third-person shooter video game made by Insomniac Games and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One. It is a comical game with a lot of humor in it and will occasionally break the fourth wall which to me is funny.

The game is set in 2027, in a fictional open world metropolis called Sunset City. The player controls an employee of FizzCo, who has to fight off the OD, short for Overcharge Drinkers: humans who have turned into mutants after drinking FizzCo’s soda beverage. In the dystopian Sunset City the player character will have to fight to survive and will meet different factions to ally with. In the game the player can wall-run, use zip-lines, and grind rails to swiftly navigate through it, with a large variety of weapons to use. Weapons like the TNTeddy, which shoots out explosive teddy bears at your enemies, are all very unique and fun to use. Another example of a unique weapon is The Dude, which shoots bowling balls at enemies. The game also has a cooperative multiplayer mode called Chaos Squad, which tasks players to complete a series of missions with several players. This mode supports up to eight players, and tasks players to complete a series of missions, as decided by the players themselves. Players defend vats of Overcharge Delirium XT from waves of OD’d at night, in a manner similar to tower defense games. In this mode, players need to stop the progression of the ODs by laying traps and setting up fortifications and barriers. This mode is inter-connected with the single-player mode allowing players to transfer their story character, with all the weapons and gadgets they have already accumulated, to the mode. Although players work together, players also try to earn more Style points during play than their co-op partners.

The controls of the game are very responsive, but can take time to get the hang of in the beginning and can turn some people off from the game. Luckily like in most games there is a tutorial on how to use the controls when you start to control your character. Once you get the hang of it its fun to navigate through the city. As I mentioned before player can navigate by wall-running, zip-line, and grind on rails. Players can also bounce off of certain objects; perform an air dash, and water grind.

The game focuses on aggressive combat so it does not feature a cover system. It is like one minute you are just grinding along trying to get somewhere and the next thing you know you are surrounded by OD which at times can be annoying.  Players will have to keep moving if they do not want to die. If the player can pull off a number of stunt kills it will fill up your style meter and activate your amps. Players pull off stunt kills by killing enemies while grinding high or low and by bouncing off objects. Amps are special abilities that can be equipped to both your character and their weapons.

The music they chose for this game I found interesting because I never heard garage or punk rock music before. The way they use the music was in a dynamic way meaning that as long as the player is doing something the music will play. For example, if your character is just standing around music will not play, but once you start grinding and traversing the music starts up and it gets louder when you are in combat. The sound of the game is good as well. The sounds of your character as you grind on rails, bounce off of objects, dash through the air, and fire your weapons. Even the sounds the OD makes when you are near them are good.

As far as missions go for this game I liked some better than others. Personally I have not really liked missions in which I had to protect a certain person or group of people. I find it tedious and they take too long. On the bright side even though there are some missions like that they are a bit more creative and fun to do. For example, the night defense missions are fun because you get to set up traps before it starts to help you out. There are also different challenge missions in the game that are all timed based. For some you have to collect a certain number of items in time while others is a test of your traversal skills

Character Customization

This game lets players create their own character and customize them. In my opinion the customization is ok at best. It does not let you mold and sculpt the face or shape of the character to the way you want them to be. Players can only chose between two body types for their male and female characters, you cannot change or modify the voice of your character, and you cannot change their personality. The clothes that are used to customize the character are unique and it is fun to come up with different combinations to make an outfit.

In the end Sunset Overdrive is a really fun game to play that I really enjoyed despite some of its flaws. If you get it from GameStop it will cost $20 if you get a pre-owned copy and $30 for a new copy. http://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=16k-Sunset+Overdrive
